Now For The Red Baron

"...chase him down in your own P51 Mustang!"

Ever wondered what it would feel like to sit inside a World War II fight plan cockpit? Here's your chance.

Give this connection here a little time to download. The imagery is fantastic & you can zoom way in to read all the gauges, placards etc. Read the instructions below on all you can do or just play with it after opening.

These images were taken of a P51 Red Tail at the Geneseo Air Show. The extremely high contrast was time consuming to tame, and patching in the "down-shot" required a lot of detail work. All part of an unknown photographer's commitment to his creative cause!

PS... there's a screw missing in the floorboard on the right side of the pilot's seat.  Perhaps on this occasion it's better that they just don't build them like they used to!

... that said there is absolutely no denying this bird the title of 'cadillac of the skies'!

Good Things Come....

"... to those that sacrifice time and effort to their imagination!"

Dad always said 'if a job's worth doing it's worth doing properly.'

Graphic Designer Harrison Krix  clearly subscribes to this approach.  When painstakingly building his Daft Punk Helmet over 17 months the full scope of sculpting, resin casting, chroming, and vacuum forming, he set a plan to capture every step on camera.  . You can check out the whole process in more detail at his blog but the video blow is an awesome tribute to the process and the result.  Pure No Can't Do.

Man Of Steel

"...Superman no longer wears a cape..."

Damien Walters started out as a gymnast specialising in tumbling (and was part of the British Men's Tumbling team that won the World Team title in 2003). From there Damien took to trampolining before broadening his influences and developing the range of skills that have lead to him being hailed as one of the best freerunners and stuntmen around. What he does with his body and the creative terrain he chooses to show case his talent is pure No Can't Do.

Credits included Hellboy II and Kick-Ass and from his showreels of the last 2 years below it's easy to see why he got the parts!.

Concrete Jumble...

".... nothing in order."

Harsh?  Fair?  Or just brilliant?  Highly imaginative and damn well put together.  Make us want to pay the place a visit.

Shadow Master Indeed

"We've all grown up trying to do this but mastery has to be earned."

Shadow Master Raymond Crowe takes shadow puppetry to a whole new level. 26 years of honing his skills have made him simply the best in this most exclusive of the arts.

To call his lyrical, touching routines simply shadow puppetry doesn't really do them justice. Images depicting a singing Louis Armstrong morphing into a horse, a preening swan, a hopping rabbit, a baby's hand clutching an adult's finger and an elderly man are illustrative of a creative genuis at work.

These days Crowe regularly receives standing ovations for his performances but is quick to highlight that it has not always been thus - "I did do a show in Port Lincoln once and when the rabbit came out they yelled out 'Shoot it! Shoot it!"'

If you haven't seen this clip before prepare to be amazed. The perfect demonstration of imagination, creativity and determination.

Piece By Piece

"... we can achieve our goals..."

Olympic Swimmer John Naber is a living breathing example of this truth.

Back in the 70s, Naber had missed out on medals at the 1972 Munich Olympics - he had found himself the forgotten man of the US team as he performed a support role in getting the US relay teams through to the finals, only for the great Mark Spitz to step in and power the team to glory. Naber finished the games promising himself if he was to return to the Olympics it would be as a gold medal winner.

He did his homework and set his sights on winning gold in the 100m backstroke at the next Games in Montreal and in doing so calculated that, based on the progression of times, he would need to swim the distance in 55.5seconds – a four full seconds faster than his best. Four seconds is a lot in swimming, enough to leave a simmer disillusioned, but not Naber.

He broke it down and then he trained. He trained for ten months a year, so he would only need to improve by one tenth of a second over the space of a month. There are roughly thirty days in a month, so he would only need to improve by one three-hundredths of a second every day. He trained for four hours every day, so he only needed to improve by one twelve-hundredth of a second every hour.

Naber won his gold – in 55.49sec. If you want it, you can work out a way to achieve it. A truly great athlete, but as the video below shows he was no match for Stains' best!...

Mental Block MAIN2

It's All In The Head

"...according to young freerunner Ali..."

Ever wondered what goes through the mind of the nations up and coming Parkour specialists? What are they thinking when they do what they do...

'Mental Block' from Director Karen Palmer, provides us with a strong insight.  This short depicts the journey of Ali, a young freerunner striving to find his own personal route through life using the discipline of parkour.  It shows how the mental blocks he and other artists inevitably encounter are addressed and ultimately overcome.

Set within london inner-city estates the freerunner discovers that the hardest obstacles to overcome are infact those that exist in the mind.  It takes imagination (the idea of being chased by a man with an axe?) and shere determination to overcome them. See it here.
